Shortly after the death of George Floyd and the demonstrations around the world that followed, I asked myself…

who am I in the middle of all this?

As a white ally, if I didn’t speak out against racial injustices, was I really allowing innocent people to get hurt—or worse? If I did speak out, would it do any good, or was I just “virtue signaling”?

With people on both sides of the street shouting at me to wallow in my ‘white guilt’, it seemed like I couldn’t find any middle ground.

So I had to make one.

I wrote DIÆSPORA as an open letter to the black community, asking, ‘how can I be an authentic ally for you?’ ‘How can I stand with you?’ And if I, a white person, had these questions, maybe there were others out there who really, truly wanted to join the cause, but just weren’t sure how.

It has been the driving force in some of the most landmark legal Supreme Court cases in our nation’s history in terms of racial equality. And LDF crossed racial and ethnic divides to get there.

I hope DIÆSPORA inspires your own conversations about race relations with the people you love and care about, whether they’re the same skin color as you or not.

I hope it creates conversations—or maybe even deepens them—about what it means to have true diversity, acceptance, equality, and maybe bring us just a little bit closer to building God’s kingdom on Earth.

Because that’s what Koshiz Music is all about.
