How to Master Energy as an Intuitive Person

Hey…what’s the big idea?!

• Energy isn’t a formless, shapeless, spiritual “vibe”
• It’s electric
   • A basic system has 3 wires: Positive (+), Neutral (-) and ground (G)
    • + and – complete the circuit
• G redirects the path in case of emergency
• Agnostics have too many grounds
• Dogmatic Christians have one, but have their wires crossed
• Be intentional based on whether something will be positive or non-positive for you
• To balance your energy levels, investigate the wires carrying the energy, not their source

As spiritual people, we talk a lot about energy. Truthfully, it’s the currency of our relationships. We hold it, feel it, earn it, and spend it. Sometime we even invest it in our hobbies to create something new.

And yet, for something so core to our beliefs, we can’t really land on a single name for it. I’ve heard it called “divine timing”, or a “vibe”. We treat it like a plasma or enigma; something fleeting that we’ll never fully grasp.

But today, I’m going to give it a name. Because when you know what to call it, you know how to control it, so you can work it in your life like a master electrician. So, let’s start with the basics.

Energy is Electricity

Energy is not a formless, shapeless fugazi. It’s more like an electrical charge. And I believe that when we correctly put it into its proper context, we’ll have a better understanding of how to capture it, use it, and just plain be more self-aware. Energy is electricity. And that is something we can understand much better than a “vibe”.

When you use a light switch to light up a dark, you’re not creating energy. You’re releasing it. When you make music, you have bass and treble. Bass is the low, rumbly, dark side. It gives music its power. Treble is the high, shiny side of the sound spectrum. It gives music its energy.

With this in mind, think about whenever you pray or meditate, you are like an appliance connecting to a power source.

A Basic Overview of Electricity

In a basic electrical system, there are three parts to it: A positive wire (+), a neutral wire (-) and a ground wire (G). Each of these connect a source to an appliance through an outlet. This all means that there are 2 states: ON and OFF.

A positive wire runs hot. It carries energy to the source. A neutral wire counteracts this charge in order to complete the circuit. And a grounding wire doesn’t carry any electricity—unless it needs to. More on that later.

Wiring Your Personal Energy Circuits

Have you ever met someone or heard a song that you didn’t love or hate, but you were just…neutral? It didn’t energize you, and it didn’t drain you, you just felt so-so about it? You probably said something like “That doesn’t do anything for me.” That’s what being neutral feels like. It’s like being non-positive in an electrical circuit.

Energy isn’t relative. It’s either on, or it’s not. There isn’t any “maybe it will work, maybe it won’t.” Why don’t we carry this binary way of thinking into our spiritual lives as well? . So when we talk about energy, rather than saying that it’s positive or negative, I think a more apt description is that it’s positive (+), or it’s non-positive. It turns out that energy is black and white after all! Just like yang and yin.

Ground Wire: Charge In Case of Emergency

So, we’ve clarified that energy flows one of two ways: it’s positive or it’s not. But what happens when disaster strikes, when life happens, or there’s a shock to the system or you get burnt out? If you’re running hot (+) under normal circumstances, you have wires crossed somewhere.

When everything is working properly, you don’t need a ground wire. It doesn’t carry a charge under normal circumstances. It’s actually there in case of an emergency. If the system gets overloaded (like a lightning strike or a power surge) the ground wire takes the “hit”. It opens up a path for the extra electricity to route itself out of the system so that your appliance doesn’t burn up.

Too Many Grounding Wires

The biggest issue I see with my fellow intuitive, spiritual people, is that they’re not grounded anything. They might be connected to “the Source”, and they might be exchanging energy. But when a disaster strikes, they spiral out of control and don’t know how to deal with reality. They have too many ground wires: books, blogs, mantras, gurus, affirmations, yoga poses, stones and crystals, podcasts, TED Talks, etc.

It’s entirely possible that each of these things could be attached to the Source, but there are too many loose ends to know which one of them will keep your system grounded. Books need to be updated over time. Podcasts get cancelled. Stones arguably have a placebo effect.

You only need one ground wire.

Completing Your Circuits with Community

A ground wire is useless if the system isn’t working in the first place. Christians I’ve met often have that problem. They have one ground wire—God and His word in the Bible—but their electrical circuits are not working properly. They’re running too hot and they become dogmatic, or they’re neutral altogether (i.e. deconstructing). The issue isn’t with the ground wire. It’s the system and how the other wires are connected.

If you were to put a spiritual person (i.e. a fully working system with no single ground wire) and a dogmatic Christian (i.e. a polarized, biased system with a ground wire) in the same room, I think they’d have a lot to learn from each other. Together, they could learn how to make a working electrical circuit. Agnostics could learn how to be more grounded, and Christians could learn more efficient, productive ways to use their energy so they’re not burning out.

Emotional Healing Using Energy

Years ago, Marie Kondo’s philosophy on decluttering swept the nation. She had a simple rule: keep the things that only spark joy. People generally move towards joy and away from pain (even though there can be no gain without pain, but I digress.)

This mindset works for gauging our emotional health just as much as our spiritual health. Usually when we’re not grounded, we go by what “feels right”. I take this to mean that people do (or don’t) say things based on how that particular thing makes them feel. They remove logic and go with their gut. Instead of asking ourselves the open-ended, hedonistic question “how does this make me feel”, we could ask the closed-ended question, “is this positive or non-positive?”.

Being neutral is the closest thing to peace we can experience in our daily lives (but too peaceful, and we become passive). We don’t need to overload our days with the positive. But as long as we balance them equally as much with neutral days, we can regulate our emotions in a healthy way.

Conclusions for Intuitives

If you’re in the business of trading energy then you should take a look at how you’re hardwired. Do you go round and round in circles, possibly overheating because not grounded in anything? Do you struggle to communicate? Or are you trying to make decisions based on what “feels right”? Feelings can flux and change, and as they saying goes “never make permanent decisions on temporary emotions.” You need a ground wire—and only one—that will never change.

Or do you have the opposite problem: Are you running so hot, and relying so much on your ground wire, that your system isn’t even working right? Are you always burnt out? You need to connect with others who can show you how to balance and channel your energy in more productive ways. The key here is you need a community of believers and non believers who will show you how to regulate your energy more efficiently. And you probably won’t get that from your normal group of church friends.

Find Your Spark’s Root Cause

If you ever have to troubleshoot an electric circuit, whether it’s a car battery, a sound system, live stage setup, etc., there is one rule of thumb: Start at the power source and work your way back to the appliance until you find the cause of the issue.

So, if you’re an empath and you were to troubleshoot your internal energy circuits, which would be easier: To question the source, or to install a ground wire? I hope this article has given you some ideas how to manage your energy levels so you can control and master what you want to get out of life.
